Visa
All visitors require a valid visa to enter Uzbekistan. Visa is issued at Uzbek embassies or Tashknet airport. To receive a visa the Uzbek partner has to apply with Ministry of foreign affairs for a visa support reference which takes 10 days. A visa to Uzbekistan cost 25-50 US$ and can be transit, single or multiple entry.
Currency
Euro & US $ (new bills 95 issue or newer) are accepted. Credit cards are accepted in all hotels, selected shops and restaurants. Travelers checks can be cashed to U.S. Dollars (against a commission of 5%) at the National Bank of Uzbekistan.
Customs
You have to fill out two custom deceleration form when you enter Uzbekistan, one of which you have to keep and show at time of departure. Any item older than 40 years is considered to be a national heritage and their export is strictly forbidden. For Special souvenirs an export certificate can be obtained at branch of ministry of culture & cost 5$.
Foreigner Registration
Every Foreigner visiting Uzbekistan must be registered at local police station (OVIR). Tourist who stay at licensed hotels or national houses are registered by Hotels. If a tourist want to stay at friend’s place he/she has to apply to local police within 72 hours and get the registration which cost 20$ for one month.
Border crossings
Please note that you need a visa for every central Asian country,
every time you cross the border to another state you need an extra visa to
return to the first state. Because of heavy taxes, we have to change cars
or buses at borders, sometimes transport is not allowed into no Man zone because
of security reasons so tourists are expected to walk for a distance of up
to 100 meters. Boarder procedure 1-2 hrs.
(The decree of a Study of the Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan "About the order of entry, departure and staying of the foreign citizens in Uzbekistan")
1. Foreign citizens may stay in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan only in the event they have visa issued by authorized bodies of the Republic in accordance with established procedure. Foreign citizens arriving by car transiting through Uzbekistan for not more than 72 hours must have: visa application; foreign passport; visa for an onward country; international driving license; proof of ownership of the vehicle; it's road worthiness; cargo manifest (if applicable) and cargo destination, plus any other documents required by the laws of Uzbekistan. Foreign citizens having valid visas to one of the countries signed the Memorandum On Mutual Recognition of Visas for Transit Passage (Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrghystan, Tadjikistan, Armenia and Belarus) may stay in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 72 hours without receiving an appropriate visa.
2. Entry Visa to visit the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be issued by Consulates of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries. In the countries where no Consulates of the Republic of Uzbekistan are available any matters relating to visa shall be settled at Consulates in countries which have arrangements with Uzbekistan in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Consideration of visa applications will take no more than 15 days and, for tourist and transit visas, not more than three days (excluding holidays and weekends). (Consulates of the Russian Federation in other countries also provide visa services for Uzbekistan). In the event that it is not possible to issue visas in these other countries, such visas may be issued at the Consulate Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Termez and in the Consulate Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan at Tashkent Airport, and at the department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgentch and Nukus towns if the appropriate visa permission is available.
3. Either an Application from the host organization having the status of a legal person of the Republic of Uzbekistan or a Notice-Invitation issued in accordance with the established procedure by the Entry/Departure and Citizenship Authorities of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan shall be required to get an Entry Visa to the Republic of Uzbekistan. For a tourist visa a voucher from Uzbektourism is also required. After Visa support documents are considered pursuant to the established procedure they shall be sent either to diplomatic missions or Consulates of the Republic of Uzbekistan or the Russian Federation. Embassies of foreign countries accredited in the Republic of Uzbekistan shall apply to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a Note-Application to provide visa support and to prolong the validity of visas for the Embassy Staff, the members of their families and next of kind.
4. Applications with the request of issuing or prolonging visas for foreign citizens are received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan 7 working days before the expected date of entry or the expiration of available visa.
Citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States can enter and stay in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan without visas.
Currently the issuing of entry visas at the Consular Bureau
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Tashkent Airport has been terminated
for citizens of the countries where appropriate diplomatic and consular institutions
of the Republic of Uzbekistan are operating.
The citizens of these countries may obtain visas at the Airport only in the
event that they arrive by flights from third countries.
